STEVEN SHEARD, MA

Steve received his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University with an emphasis on child and adolescent services.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from George Mason as well.

Steve has over 31 years of experience providing and managing mental health and substance abuse programs.  He has worked in residential treatment, day treatment, and co-occurring (MH/SA) treatment programs.  Steve served as the Site Director for Fairfax County’s largest outpatient mental health treatment center, where over 60,000 face-to-face outpatient and 12,000 emergency services/crisis interventions were provided annually.

Steve has extensive experience with inter-agency collaboration, including Wrap-around Services and Systems of Care initiatives.  He is experienced in public-private partnership and provided key leadership in establishing unique programming for community-based crisis intervention.  Steve served as the Virginia Community Services Boards’ representative to the Virginia Interdepartmental Regulatory Authority, providing input to state-wide policy formation.

Steve has been an active CARF surveyor since March 2006.  He has surveyed in a wide variety of programs and populations in the Behavioral Health array of services.  Steve is committed to a consultative approach and enjoys sharing the many different right ways to do things he has seen while surveying across the United States and Canada.
